No, not of this blog, not time to rejoice yet!
It's just that the overprint saga is coming to an end. Phew!
In August 1945, the Japanese surrendered, but by then parts of the Netherlands Indies had already been liberated by US and Australian troops. The Dutch restored power in those areas quite easily. However, in other areas - Java, Madura and Sumatra - the republican movement had gained a lot of ground and an Indonesian Republic was declared. The Dutch were never to regain total control there again.
The republicans brought in all existing stocks of (Japanese overprinted) stamps and applied various republican overprints. Here's two varieties that I have:
Black 17mm hand-stamped overprint "Rep. Indonesia" applied on all stamps in stock, in combination with Japanese machine overprint (general printing Sumatra).
Red 24mm hand-stamped overprint "Rep. Indonesia" applied on all stamps in stock, in combination with Japanese machine overprint (general printing Sumatra).
There's many more, for the Dai Nippon collectors club has published a 348-page catalogue on this period only! See the link at the left. Worth a visit!
